The chemistry

Two ways to lift a stain. Only one of them is gentle.

Whitening works by breaking down the coloured molecules trapped in your enamel. How a product does that is the whole difference between a comfortable result and a week of wincing at cold drinks.

Peroxide whitening

Free radicals do the work

Hydrogen and carbamide peroxide break down into free radicals that attack the stain indiscriminately. Effective — but the same reactivity is what drives the sensitivity so many people give up over.

PAP+ — what we use

Direct oxidation, no radicals

Phthalimidoperoxycaproic acid oxidises the stain molecule directly rather than generating free radicals along the way. It is a targeted reaction, and it is why PAP has become the formulation of choice for people who react badly to peroxide.

Fourteen days on. Then just keep it there.

Strips ask for half an hour. This asks for under three minutes, and after the first fortnight it drops to a couple of times a week.

BRUSH — then rinse

Dip a damp brush into the whitening powder and brush for two minutes. Follow immediately with a sachet of the colour-correcting mouthwash, swirled for thirty seconds. Every day, for fourteen days.

Hold the result

Once the mouthwash course is finished, the powder carries on alone. Two or three times a week is enough to keep the shade you have just worked for.

The things people actually ask.

Will it make my teeth sensitive?

PAP+ is chosen precisely because it avoids the free-radical reaction that drives peroxide sensitivity, and most people find it noticeably more comfortable. That said, sensitivity varies from person to person and no whitening product can promise nobody will feel anything.

If you already have sensitive teeth, gum disease, or recent dental work, speak to your dentist before starting.

How long before I see a difference?

Results depend on what is staining your teeth in the first place. Coffee, tea, red wine and tobacco staining respond differently, and intrinsic discolouration will not respond to a surface whitener at all.

Is this the same as what a dentist does?

No, and it is not trying to be. In-chair whitening uses higher-strength peroxide under professional supervision and is regulated accordingly. Albus Max is a cosmetic product for at-home use, formulated to work without peroxide.

Can I use it with crowns, veneers or fillings?

Whitening products work on natural enamel. They will not change the colour of crowns, veneers, bonding or fillings, which means existing dental work can end up looking different against newly whitened teeth. Ask your dentist first if you have visible restorations.

Who should not use it?

Anyone under 18. Anyone who is pregnant or breastfeeding. If you have gum disease, untreated decay, or any dental condition you are being treated for, check with your dentist before you start.
